Chemically treated crystal rollers on your skin?

Anti-Aging receives many questions about why other companies chemically treat their crystals before carving.

For those of you unfamiliar with this process, many groups chemically treat the crystals such as jade, rose quartz and amethyst before carving the stones to make them easier to carve and less likely to break.

The process changes the chemical composition of the crystal, making it softer and less likely to break. Many believe it also dramatically alters the crystal’s energetic properties, so anyone interested in the crystals’ natural energy should defiantly avoid jade rollers and other implements carved in this manner.

Crystal is classified as either Class A, B, or C depending on the quality of the original crystal and the level of chemical treatment it undergoes. A quality crystal is a high quality natural crystal that has not been chemically treated in any way.

Chemically treated crystal is often referred to as reconstituted crystal or other terms to explain this process of chemical treatment. Unfortunately, most sellers of chemically treated crystal do not declare that it is chemically treated and still call it natural. It’s a simple case where buyers pay attention and make sure you trust the seller.

Anti-Aging uses only untreated Grade A crystal in all of its crystal rollers, gua sha and crystal combs.

All crystals have different degrees of hardness, which are measured using the MOHS scale. Some crystals like Nephrite Jade have an average rating of 6 to 6.5, while others like Amethyst are much harder and easier to break.

The hardness of the crystal affects the cost of making the crystal rolls, as harder crystals require more skilled artisans to carve them by hand, and even the most skilled artisans have a higher rate of breakage when carved this way due to natural flaws in the crystal work with natural crystal crystal.

The image above shows examples of breakage when carving the handles for amethyst and clear quartz rollers. Amethyst is particularly difficult to carve and many of the crystals break when attempting to carve long pieces such as amethyst roller handles.

As the crystals Anti-Aging uses in our factory are gem quality, these broken pieces can be resold as small crystals like those often seen in many alternative shops to avoid wastage.

Even after this process, buying gemstone crystals, carving them by hand, and accepting some degree of breakage adds to the cost of the process. It’s easy to see why many retailers simply use a series of harsh chemicals on the crystals to simplify the process, especially as it’s very difficult for the consumer to verify.

Here’s a simple test, if you see a crystal roller for sale on ebay for CHF 11, it’s chemically treated. It’s simply impossible to make the reels at this price point without using B or C grade crystal.

Anti-Aging has been carving and selling the highest quality crystal jade rollers and gua sha for over 15 years.
