According to Slice Intelligence analysts, 957,000 Apple smartwatches were pre-ordered in the U.S. last Friday. On average, potential buyers spent $ 503.83. The entry-level version Apple Watch Sport and the standard version Apple Watch accounted for an average of $ 382.83 and $ 707.04, respectively. The high-end version of the gadget with prices from 11,000 euros was probably less in demand – it plays no role in the analysis by Slice Intelligence.
Unsurprisingly, the Apple Watch was largely used by anyone who already owns a Cupertino product from the Group. 21 percent of pre-orders had bought an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus in the past few months, 72 percent had bought an iPad, iPhone or an Apple computer in the past two years. 62 percent of the pre-orderers opted for the cheapest version of the wearable, the Apple Watch Sport – but with a more expensive housing than the basic version.

The larger Apple Watch was more popular in both versions: a total of 71 percent chose the 42-millimeter version. The 38-millimeter version was ordered by 32 percent of Apple Watch Sport buyers and 24 percent of Apple Watch buyers. Gray aluminum was the most popular with 40 percent of the case material. 34 percent of those interested, on the other hand, struck with stainless steel and 23 percent with silver aluminum. Black stainless steel with its 3 percent share was not particularly popular.
If Slice Intelligence analysts are right, Apple has so far received more pre-orders for its watch in the U.S. alone than Android Wear devices sold worldwide in 2014. Canalys predicts that it was “only” 720,000 wearables with Google OS that went over the counter last year.
